As one of the few remaining practitioners of practical technology transfer to farmers, Alan Dewar has built a considerable reputation as a public speaker over the last twenty years. Examples of recent presentations include:

- 2-4 presentations to growers each winter on pest control options in sugar beet
- Presentations to Agrichemical companies about current strategies for pest control
- Presentation to the OILB meeting on GM crops in Lleida, Spain (May 2005)
- Keynote speech at the Royal Entomological Society of London on GM issues (July 2005)
- Guest speaker at the AAB (Association of Applied Biologists) AGM (September 2005)
- Contributions to the British Crop Protection Conference (BCPC) in Glasgow on pest control in sugar beet (November 2005)
- Presentation to AAB conference on ‘Crop protection in sugar beet and potatoes’ (December 2005)
- Annual lecture to Imperial College Applied Biology M.Sc. students (Feb)
