Alan Dewar has travelled extensively during his career as an entomologist, with study visits to

- Australia (2002/2004)
- India (2007)
- Ethiopia (2008)
- All western European countries in the last 28 years
He was chairman of the IIRB Pests and Diseases Study Group for 6 years
(1994-2000) during which time he was involved in planning and
organising annual conferences on sugar beet, mostly in Europe, and
devising, planning and implementing collaborative research between
several of the member countries.
